Info

Final Results - As version 2 available on the right:ACU Western Trials Championship positions will appear later on the ACU Western website once the co-ordinator has ironed out any issues.

Apologies to those who were hoping for our Stony Green venue but we'll be using our Rockfield venue courtesy of our president Roy Breakwell. We have had Centre championship events here before and older competitors will remember a much easier ride between sections. And maybe even less vicious rocks!

(Warning, rambling ahead!) - When I said we'd had Centre Championship Trials on Roy's land before, I'm talking a very long time ago. Some of our Over 60's may remember the Breakwell's earlier farm base of Hadnock, which also hosted Centre championship rounds, just the other side of Monmouth and when one forbidding section was named 'Chain Strain'. A straight 50' high 45° climb up a gravel side of a quarry with a step half-way up, just when you're trying to keep the power on without breaking grip! If you got to the top you could look down over the beautiful Wye Valley and watch all the amazing wild life. I've observed there from when I was 13 and can assure you that a few bikes don't stop nature showing its beauty. (Those of you into MTB Enduro riding will have visited the venue during 'Camber and Bunker' runs!)

I talked to Roy and he remembers being Clerk of the Course for the first time (Roy is having a search though to see if he has the results - Dave Lomas won it on his Scorpion {Guess where that bike is now!} so probably 1967ish, and Roy must have been in his 20's (How many of you can say you'd taken on that responsibility for our sport so early in life!) and true to form, he was thrown in the deep-end with a protest to sort out and the might of Centre Steward, possibly Les Davis was called upon! Seldom do riders put so much back into our sport as Roy, and continue to do so for so many years. Luckily, ACU Western has a valliant few who follow that tradition - you know who you are!

Did you spot that we've removed the old gender part for the route names, so it is now Club and Sports Route rather than Clubman etc. It will takes years before we can stop ourselves letting Clubman trip off the tongue but we have to get real and ditch gender bias, if that is what it is. Females have been riding as equals for ages in our sport. Look at Becky Cook's ride and 10% of Longtown's entry were female too. If we carried on with the old traditional ways then the naming convention on results would never tell you who did what because you'd all be using initials and not know which particular 'A. Nother' of the Nother family was being refered to. There were times when I'd have got a spanking at the board meetings for suggesting such a thing!
