Machynlleth 06

Here is a typical story from one of the serious training exercises!
STOP PRESS: Club Chairman rescued from Forest. Wednesday 13th (Sep06) was not a good night. Rod's lights expired very early on so he retired. Later on, Chris disappeared from the back of the pack near the cycle-centre at Cannop. The remaining group members spent 15mins looking in the bushes for the missing rider, but decided he must have returned to his van at the Tufty (we later met him at the pub). Shortly afterwards, halfway up the climb to Worral Hill, a stick entered the rear wheel of the chairman's bike and sheared off the rear mech. The chairman was gripped by the terrible thought that he wouldn't now make the pub before closing time!! Having pushed the disabled Scott up to the main road, the remaining riders heroically pushed the chairman all the way back to the King's Head at Berry Hill in plenty of time for sausage, chips and a swift half or two. Whilst being propelled along the road, the chairman did have an idea about looping the chain over a high gear and pedalling, but decided against interrupting the pushers who were making such a splendid effort. Thanks chaps!
