Sphinx Trial 2007

Photos by Ben Falconer

A bit of a result for West Glos riders. with Ben in 4th and Stan in 6th, both dropping a miserly 2.

I'll have a scan through later for more. Anyone got any snippets?

Ben Falconer just said: if only me, Stan and Goff had entered the Sphinx as a team! Obviously, riding in a CHG event I should ride for WGDF just to redress the balance from the Wyegate.

Nevermind, thanks to hot weather and NERC it wasn't much of a struggle but still a grand day out starting from the refined and genteel setting of Hazleton village hall, where the committee laid on home made bacon rolls in the morning and ham rolls and beer in the afternoon. There was about 90+ miles of riding in between and the sections that really mattered were at Colgate Farm's slippery gullies.

I was at the back, picking up markers and observers on the way. We used some tracks familiar to the Hell of the North Cotswolds riders the week before, including an unsurfaced road, which we pootled along behind a people carrier! Before the finish we were greeted by competitors and Hazelton residents Guy and Cathy M-S, who started the 2nd special test with white flags fabricated from 2 large pairs of ladies bloomers. The bikes stayed clean all day until that special test, which meant by he end of the day not only did we feel like we'd had a full day's riding but looked like it too.

Congrats to Rob Trebble for not bothering to put his feet down at all and the CHG for an excellent day out and overcoming a lot of hurdles to make it a reality.
