The Olchan - Sep 2005

Report and Photos by Ben Falconer.

The Olchanolics reunion run attracted a bumper entry of 8 riders to a mystery venue in God's own trials country.

Garry Jones returned home rueing a mis-read of the ends cards, which cost him 5 marks and the premier on Sunday, September 18. His dab at Middlecwm had matched winner Dave Eeles, who took one at Hermits but otherwise rode superbly to take the overall.

More importantly, a fine weekend was enjoyed by those who came for one or both days, overseen by the expert eye of the Western Centre president. He has officiated at one or two trials in this neck of the woods for a few years and his efforts and that of daughter Sue are greatly appreciated.

With Roy Savery, Dave Eeles, Rob Taylor and Julian Bishop, on Saturday they marked out a trial exclusively of sections which can only be described as exquisite - begins cards at the bottom of the gullies and ends cards at the top. Proper sections!

Judging by the green gills of some of the competitors (no names) on Sunday morning, the allure of the pre-trial drinks on Saturday night had proved fairly strong.

The field of 8 was whittled down to 7 after the first section, where my Pampera added water to the fuel/spark/air process. Minder Tony Falconer had already fived, so donated his bike to me and I did none the worse for having nearly 100cc less at my disposal.

Yet again a super day in excellent company with no-one taking it too seriously (well maybe a bit!).

For the record, the entry comprised Julian "Proper Bike" Bishop, Garry "New Bike" Jones, Cliff "How long ago did I first ride here?" Hannam, Yoshi "Cider is my middle name" Adams, Tony "Minder" Falconer, Ben "Dad'll fix it" Falconer, Rob "RT" Taylor and Dave "The Ace" Eeles.

They were chased round and observed by Trevor, Sue and Roy who had a happy knack of appearing at sections by magic just at the right time.
