Stump Wood Hill Climb - 14 August 2004

Words Ben Falconer.

WITH three Bishop brothers entering the Stump Wood Hill Climb, there was a fairly good chance that one would win it.

In fact Ben took overall victory and elder brother Dan was second, taking the Enduro class award at the West Glos and Dean Forest MCC event on Saturday (Aug 14).

Set out at club president Roy Breakwell's farm at Rockfield, Monmouth, this unique event gave riders from a wide spectrum of off-road disciplines the four chances to attempt four timed hills, plus two observed sections.

Youngest of the Bishops, Joe, was fifth overall - Simon Ellway and Mark Harris split the brothers' stranglehold on the event.

The trials class was perhaps the most hotly contested, even though there were only two riders - Steve Cooper beat Merv Morgan by three seconds.

Neil Hannam took the trail class win by quite a margin. His time gave him eighth overall against a field of many faster machines.

Schoolboy Aaron Wells buzzed to victory on his little 80cc Honda, with Kingsley Bower and Nathan Etheridge not far behind.

Thanks to clerk of the course Julian Bishop and his team of helpers and observers, and landowner Roy Breakwell.

Results - cumulative points on time and observation.
