Wayne Hewitt and I entered the Knighton Hare and Hounds in the 4hr Ironman class (individual) instead of the 2 man team class. The event was held at the Radnor forest complex and was run in place of the cancelled Radnor forest Enduro. 75 entered so not a bad turnout. The organising Central Wales Auto Club (CWAC) were very friendly, helpful and well organised.
On our way up the heavens really opened up and we thought it might be cancelled. As it wasn't, we signed in, got scutineered, lined the bikes up and saw a few familiar faces Paul Sager, Lee Jones!
The race started at 10:30, both Wayne and I had really bad starts, mine wouldn't start and then I lost my goggles on the first straight. Wayne had the worst luck though his bike seized solid at about 50mph on the first straight. I didn't know about this until I came back round to the pits and saw Wayne standing there with my goggles which he'd picked up. He was absolutely gutted, he was really looking forward to this event, he likes the tough ones like me. But he kept his chin up and spannered for me.
The going was quite tough, all forestry going very rooty and rutty and after that rain it made it hard for a lot of riders. The laps were 7 miles long and on my 14th lap I had a rear puncture, so straight into pits and Wayne and I got stuck straight in and had it changed in 9 mins so I lost 1 lap due to that. I went on to complete another 5 so 19 in total which placed me 6th overall in Clubman class and I had the fastest lap of the day in Clubman at 10:46 but would not have done it without Wayne's help.
The CWAC are running another H&H at the Red Lion complex in Builth Wells in October so if anybody is interested I would recommend it. Its nice to do a H&H with so much variety instead of just going round a field and for 4hrs really good event. We will definitely be going back.
