Roan Delaney - Picked for British Team
West Glos and Dean Forest youth motocross racer Roan Delaney has been competing in the British Youth Motocross Championship this year after a successful rookie year in 2016 when he finished 9th. A strong start this year saw him running 4th after the third round in Desertmartin in Northern Ireland, which earned him selection into the GB Team for the World Championships in Estonia at the end of July.
The 11 year old from near Lydney stepped up his training program to prepare for the Worlds, and was riding, swimming and running six days per week, and was looking in great form ahead of the trip.
Unfortunately, two weeks before the event, at a training day with the rest of the GB team in Sherwood Forest, Roan crashed on a fast downhill jump breaking his right leg and collarbone. A week in Mansfield's Kingsmill Hospital fixed him up with some titanium metalwork, and he then returned home, just in time for the school holidays!
His leg is now healing nicely, and he should be back on his feet just in time to go back to school!!
Looking ahead, Roan will move up to the 85cc class when he is ready, but no rush to do that just yet...
