We must have had the best weather in the country despite it being dull and overcast!

Did anyone get any digital photos? Our usual crew got collared for observing duties.

More to come later...

In the run-up to this annual event and thanks to some superb work from Ben Bish and the Forestry Commission, we've had a joint work party with the Western Centre's Youth Development Squad training session and created some interesting new sections and modifications to existing sections ready for Boxing Day. A team of West Glos riders helped clear and design 5 new versions with some valuable input from Matt Welch and Matti Christopher from Glos and Cots. While the Youth Squad broke into 2 groups with coaches Simon and James Welch to give them experience of creating sections safely and testing them at the planned 3 route levels. Below is the video from one of their sections.

This video shows one of the training groups learning on 'The Big Hill' at the Youth Development Squad's session which Ben Bish helped them run a few weeks before Boxing Day, you can see them improve as Simon gives them tips.

OK. I plead guilty for trying some new Rider Numbers. They worked fine close up but not at the distance our Observers had to stand to see everything. We will go back to solid number.

RAW-Sports Rule in Experts and 50/50 and Experience clearly dominates throughout the routes with Over 50s battling it out for the Clubman win, 3 Over 60's leading the popular Sports Plus and Merv putting age at the top of the Sports. This should not detract from a superb ride by young Harry Jeffries riding up in Clubman and fending off all but one 5.

Assistant Clerk of Course Ben Bishop did an excellent call on severity of sections, now we can look back in hindsight, each route ending up being won on similar marks. There were surprisingly few retirements considering the amount of riders suffering with colds too.

The betting stalls were busy when Steve Cooper brought the Tiger Cub to sign-on and both he and the bike confounded the doubters to finish what was a tough trial by modern standards. OK, we'll concede he had to weld the footrest back on at one stage but well done Steve.
